The Lyme Spot is about having Lyme: living with it, putting up with it, embracing it, damning it, figuring it out, not figuring it out, but most of all. it's about community. I will be sharing my experience, my feelings, and all the things I know that help me get through my days and keep me feeling positive, or at the very least keep me alive! But please, also come here to share your experiences, feelings and all the things you know. Together, we can get through anything.
I've gotten an influx of requests for information about the Salt/C protocol and being on it. I thought I should make it more accessible for everyone, so here's the Salt/C protocol I use:
Recipe
- 32 oz glass jar
- 1/4 tsp Sea Salt and 2000 mg Vit C
or
- 1/2 tsp Sea Salt and 3000 mg Vit C
or
- 3/4 tsp Sea Salt and 4000 mg Vit C
or
- 1 tsp Sea Salt and 5000 milligrams Vit C
(use Vit C with bioflavonoids and rosehips in capsule form for easy digestion)
Add Sea Salt to 32 oz water in jar and let sit until it dissolves (few hours usually / i use distilled water because New Mexico water is super unclean). Drink whole jar and take correct amount of Vit C. Refill jar to the top and drink. That is more than enough water to ensure proper salt/water ratio in your body. Be mindful of your thirst and drink water whenever you feel thirsty.
What kind of sea salts can be used? PURE, UNADULTERATED sea salt. There are products that say Sea Salt on the label, and they still have been bleached or have anti-caking agents, thus will be toxic. Thoroughly research your kind of salt before using it for this protocol. Here are some safe kinds: La Balaine, Celtic, Redmond Real, Himalayan.
1 teaspoon of salt = 5 oz of salt
My Protocol
I started with 1/4 tsp of salt and increased it by 1/4 tsp every day until i was at 1 tsp in the morning and 1tsp at night. For the night-time dose, if you don't have a few hours to wait, you can dissolve over low heat on stove. Heat can change the molecular structure of things, so I don't like to get it too hot.
RULE OF THUMB FOR WATER: 8oz water per 1oz of sea salt / 1 tsp salt = drink 40oz water (my recipe calls for more because i think it's important to stay hydrated)
RULE OF THUMB FOR VIT C: 1000mg per 1oz Sea Salt / 1 tsp salt = 5000mg Vit C (sometimes i take twice as much for my night dose. you can't overdo Vit C really, it just causes diarrhea at the saturation point, and that's not actually bad as sometimes people do it on purpose (Vit C Flush it's called) and it cleans toxins out of you. i think because at night my immune system is hard at work, the extra Vit C gets used better so i can take more and still not get diarrhea.)
Sometimes I Herx. Since I work, I decrease my salt when I Herx so that the Herx is more mild and I can make it through my work day.
The most important part of any protocol is this: listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs. adjust your protocol according to what your body tells you! ;-)
Here is a link to my post on the discussion board at Adi's Lyme Spot about it. It has links to the pages I used to learn how to start my protcol: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=164613599200&oid=137148663262#/topic.php?uid=137148663262&topic=12347
**It has come to my attention that people who are not part of my Facebook group are getting access to this page, thus I'm including the links I used to educate myself about how to do this safely below**

A very interesting site by a man who did Salt/C and put what came out of his body under a microscope. His salt/c protocol is extreme. The following website has a more mellow and gradually incremental protocol - http://www.lymephotos.com/

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and this is not a recommendation. This is simply what I do. There are risks and I researched them fully before I started. I am an adult and this is an adult protocol. This is not for children. I don't have any information on what a protocol for a child might be.
